Memory and Desire

WHAT THIS IS

A live multimedia song-cycle performance in which the actors tell a tale of broken love in mid-life between two established professionals who meet by chance at a dinner with mutual friends.

The characters encounter their twin souls or soul mates, and must confront an age-old conflict:  the soul's desire for completeness against the pull of existing commitments.

The scarred survivors attempt to maintain a sense of self amidst painful memories.

As the star-crossed soulmates, two of the DC Metro Area's favorite singer / actors Ivy Elizabeth and Kurt Gustafson create the singing roles of the romantic leads.

Composer Bazz Atlas rounds out the cast in the role of Chorus.

24 Multimedia Scenes

Breaking new ground and placing the performance squarely between concept album and musical theater, Bazz's multimedia rendering and staging concept (with lighting design by Kurt) calls for projection of images, video clips and lyrics above and behind the singers on Kurt's custom-built screen.

Shifting focal points at any moment guide each audience member to envision a completed story based on his or her own experiences.

Say what?

As Mr. Chorus asserts, the stories we each tell ourselves, about ourselves, are not the truth, per se. Rather, each story serves to neatly tie up the incongruent bits of truth, in a manner that is acceptable to the self-image each of us needs to get through the day. So it is with the love story to follow.
